I’m sure you have heard this old quasi-philosophical question,
“What came first, the chicken or the egg?”
The answer quite simply is neither came first.
In Revelation 22:13 we are given this very succinct declaration, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
Vs. 2, “He was with God in the beginning.”
The Word was with God in the beginning.
Who was the Word with God in the beginning?
We know Him by the earthly-eternal name God gave to Him. Jesus.
In Luke 1:31-32, during the Annunciation, the angel says to Mary, “You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be called the Son of the Most High.”
We are thus describing His human and divine character. For us being strictly human, to be born of the woman requires a male progenitor, begotten of man, born of woman. Male and female. It’s fundamental to the human biology reproductive system.
God was not reproducing. He was producing a unique personality, never be duplicated again, His only begotten Son. He was delivering the Savior of His people, and not for His people only, but available to the whole world.
Jesus, our Savior, was begotten of God, born of woman. Thus He is God’s only begotten Son on earth and in heaven – human/divine. We who are born from above are adopted sons and daughters of God by divine election, meaning by His personal/sovereign choice.
His choice. Our responsibility is in our response to Him.
John 6:44-45 He says, “No one can come to me unless the Father Who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up on the last day…everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to me.” (NIV)
The angel goes on to say, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”
The Word became flesh, and His name forever is Jesus. The Son of the Most High. The Son of God. Who was with God in the beginning, and He was and is from eternity to eternity God, as stated in verse 1. He is the Totality of existence, the beginning and the end.
These are some things I was ruminating on today and thought I would share to remind of what you probably already know. But it does the heart good to remember and ponder over the things we already know, lest we forget. And forget not who we are in Christ.
This is a subject outline of which I expect to expand on in a future posting. Lord willing and the creek don’t rise.
