Always

Have you ever had a wilderness experience? Of course. We have all had more than one I should think. And? Who delivered you through those experiences. There is only One. It is how we learn to trust Him.

Dragging my heels forward

I quickly turned looking behind

Was somebody following me?

Nobody could I see.

Turning to continue my trek

Ahead I thought I saw water to sleck

A throbbing thirst and cool this burning wreck.

A shape I saw movement, was he offering…or beckoning?

Was it a man or only the figment of a burnt reckoning?

Was I being followed or being led?

Slowly I trod on feeling no more blood to be bled.

Mountains east of me, mountains west, behind and ahead.

This overcooked valley of dry bones was too much on and in my head.

As I passed  heat-radiant rock I heard a voice, “Traveler. Drink.”

No man did I see, nor a shadow behind, a pool of cool water before me.

I did not think.

I did drink.

And rest.

And ponder.

If only I could carry some with me to the far mountain yonder,

Far across scorching valley floor I would surely find more water.

From deep within distant memory, “living water” came to surface at last.

A voice-not-a-voice again spoke, “Traveler. Go in the strength you have.”

Explosion of memory and vivid imagery, a mother who said He gives not by half.

Said she, you may journey or stay fast the Savior will always be your Staff.

He goes before and follows behind always know never alone a burden will you bear.

Full memory came from deep, refreshing as a cool breeze in warm evening air.

How could I have forgotten, since I was begotten,

The Savior will always be there!

~G.W.

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
Though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah  ~Psalm 46.1-3

  1. Really good G.W.
In the wilderness now. Life flighted our daughter. Found the pool today with mountains in the distance. Surrounded by praying people makes the enemy cry foul this time. She is coming around. I’m going to tell her she’s a slecker.

    1. Wow, Gary. This year has been a trial by fire for you. The Lord must have clear plans for you in Eternity for the hard work-with-love He has put you through, emotionally-spiritually. Yes, tell her she is greatly loved and watched closely by the Lord!
So glad you are surrounded with praying people. Count mine among them, please.
