Since writing this snow already covers the ground and trees, and the river threatens at any minute to initiate its freeze.

In anticipation of summer’s return while staring into early winter as late autumn passes. Optimism is a cozy cushion from which to view the inevitable, both pleasant and not so much. Once upon a time, winter was my favorite play season. Alas, the regular passing of time requires the normal shifting of paradigms.

Northern hemisphere

Late October

Summer is gone,

Over the horizon

Summer approaches

Winter’s rest nears

Tree sap nestled in root bed

Sleeping, gathering strength

Awakening to renew as summer approaches

Spring hearkens to heaven

Renewed life sends notice

Arousing all from slumber, saying

We are approaching summer’s door.

No further entreating needed, we are expected.

Once again that time to desire summer’s linger.

Our Creator hard-wired into our nature the anticipation of looking forward to something. The absence of goals, unrelated to how big or small, diminishes having a sense of peace. When summer ends, and with autumn’s segue to winter, I always anticipate the coming of the following summer while enjoying this present journey toward it. Just like clockwork, the seasons hum through their allotted time.

Seasons of life. There is a time for everything and a season for every purpose under His heaven. When darkest gloom of night enshrouds, there is a reliable brightening of morning light to follow.

Seasons come and go in their time,

Faithfully to return.

In cycles, they move us from

Infancy to youth to mid-age to maturation of time.

In season’s course, we depart to go the way of all generations.

In faithfulness of God’s planning, these waymarks move us along our journey.

Season to season to season in an upward spiral,

Until we reach out our hand and touch the face of God,

Being embraced to know as we are known in His presence

His faithful dedication of promise fulfilled.

“Even to your old age and gray hairs
I AM He, I AM He who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Isaiah 46:4

    1. Thank you, Crissy.
The seasons suit some of the people all the time,
And all the people some of the time.
But all have their favorite, and often those favorites change like the seasons. 🤗
      Blessings to you!
