The Promise

How many promises have been made to you and kept in your lifetime? By those close to you as well as strangers, and those in between? There is One who Is, Was, and Will Be Forevermore; Who has, does, and will always, keep His promises. His Name is Jesus. He is coming again — it’s His promise.  -g,w,

(A.W. Tozer)

“His head and hair were white like wool(Not Cotton Candy), as white as snow, and His eyes were like blazing fire(Not soft and liquid, trying to be liked and accepted by people). His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace(Not nailed to a cross), and His voice was like the sound of rushing waters(Not a soft breeze in midsummer). In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp double-edged sword(Not flower petals being tossed to the crowds). His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance!”(He now stood out in a crowd with absolute power among all creation, not just men). Revelation 1:14-16

Unfortunately, the ten-cent-store Jesus being preached now by many–is not the Jesus that will come to judge the world.

This (harmless, one-dimensional, synthetic) Jesus who has no spine, nor justice, nor wrath–but is a soft and pliant friend to everybody;  if He is the only Christ, then we might as well close our Bibles, bar our doors and make a bakery or garage out of our church buildings!

The popular Christ being preached today(Who says sin is ok if you were born that way)–is not the Christ of the Bible, nor the Christ who will be our final Judge.

Jesus Christ our Lord, the Judge with the flaming eyes–is the one with whom we must deal. We cannot escape it.

“Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man(there were no longer any atheists) hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks: Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who can stand?” Revelation 6:15-17

God’s mercy and God’s justice(wrath) are intertwined as just two folds in a manifold(many folds) cord within God’s love. (Parenthetical, observational comments are mine.)    -g.w.

Mt. St. Helens — 1980

PSALM 2

Why do the nations conspire[a]
    and the peoples plot in vain?

The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
    against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,

“Let us break their chains
    and throw off their shackles.”

The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
    the Lord scoffs at them.

He rebukes them in his anger
    and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,

“I have installed my king
    on Zion, my holy mountain.”

I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, “You are my son;
    today I have become your father.

Ask me,
    and I will make the nations your inheritance,
    the ends of the earth your possession.

You will break them with a rod of iron[b];
    you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
    be warned, you rulers of the earth.

11 Serve the Lord with fear
    and celebrate his rule with trembling.

12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry
    and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
    Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
