My teenage granddaughter came in the door, pulled up a chair and plopped down next to me at my desk as she hung her head. I asked, “And?” She said “After Christmas it’s just winter!”
I knew she had been busy-busy with intense and concentrated Christmas shopping all month, paying attention to the tiniest detail for each special person. I said, “Stressed, maybe?”
Two more days to Christmas! And only three more days to “just winter”? In these elder years the only most wonderful thing about winter is the sparkling reminder that Christmas is the “most wonderful time of year,” as a song writer put it. Because, Christ! And CHRIST-mas kept in the heart all year long makes the true point of the season outlast winter.
However, knowing that there can be a downer of a by-product to any earthly “wonderful time.” Even the Christmas season. Here is a countermeasure to any type downer:
A little pause for prayer to remember Who is in charge can make the difference between a good day and a bad day, joy and negativity.
“A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge,
but the mouth of the fool; gushes folly.” Proverbs 15: 1, 2
A prosperous thought to remember when even the best day seems to be disintegrating around the ears and turning to dust at the feet. Ever have one of those….never mind. No need for me to ask.
A good relationship requires a lot of communication. Active, sustaining faith requires a lot of prayer and listening to that still small voice. None of that can happen without pausing from our busyness and entering God’s rest.
Enjoy this Christmas season!
And Pause often to remember
Christ, our Savior!
“He leadeth me, He leadeth me.
By His own hand, He leadeth me,”
g.w
Oh!
And have
A very
Wonderful
Lord’s Day, today!
(still, g.w.)
Pause and pray, its a good reminder.
I find that I pause often, to remember where I put things (chuckle)
