A Psalm For The Wounded Heart

There Is A Balm in Gilead

The Concordia Choir, (Moorhead, MN) 2008, Dr. René Clausen, Conductor.

(1)   There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin-sick soul.
Some times I feel discouraged,
And think my work’s in vain,
But then the Holy Spirit
Revives my soul again.
There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin-sick soul.

(2)   If you cannot preach like Peter,
If you cannot pray like Paul,
You can tell the love of Jesus,
And say He died for all.
There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin-sick soul.
This is one of my favorite old hymns and often lifts my spirit when there appears a cloud – shadow dimming the light within my soul. A reminder my Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, never leaves me – never forsakes me. Tho I can no longer preach from a pulpit or teach in front of a class.  I can’t sing like the angels, but I can use the pen to write of the Saviors healing love.       -g.w
This hymn appeared in the 1889 Methodist Hymnal with a different tune, but the tune in our present hymnal, as with most other publications, is the traditional tune.

Retired and On sabbatical (again, but not quite). More info available in 'About Me' on my site page.(There is a small square box with three little dots inside, on the upper right hand side of every blog page,at the right side of title banner. Click on those dots to take you to a "hidden" site page with more info provided by me, including "follow" button and "About me." I didn't design this thing.It came as-is.)Also WP has a mandatory banner at the bottom of the screen about privacy and cookies policy that blocks the visibility of a "follow" button that pops up under a "close and accept' of the privacy agreement. You have to click the 'close and accept to see the follow button. Things are becoming more complicated to navigation with hidden activations and complex instructions. Life and technology is like that. If something seems simple you're probably doing it wrong. But I'm left-handed so maybe it's just me.
