So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.

Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”

“From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him in fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”

“ ‘If you can’?“ said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.”

Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help my unbelief!” Mark 9:20-24

What’s the difference between belief and unbelief?

How did you arrive at that position of belief or unbelief?

Do you believe? Sometimes? More so than not? Or not at all?

Do you think about it only in times of personal crisis like this poor, heartbroken father?

There are many seeming paradoxes in the Christian life, that are quite unintelligible to the wise of this world. So how does the person of faith, true faith, wrestle with these moments of weakness of belief, as well as all weaknesses?

There are so many places in the Bible to give us the answer I will list only one here:

“Oh, wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!” -Ro. 7:24-25

Because we all need the Savior to rescue us in much faith and in little faith, every hour, every day, all the time.

May the LORD shed His Amazing Grace all over you during these busy-busy times of this Christmas Season.
